Introduction to Aspiration Detection Systems

Aspiration Detection Systems Wiring Diagram

In an aspirated detection system, air is sampled from the protected area through a network of pipes or tubes, actively drawing the air towards the detection system using a high pressure aspirator fan.

There are 2 main considerations for choosing an aspirating system.

  1. The first is that the sampling pipework used in aspirating systems is more resilient to harsh environments than a standard point smoke detector.
  2. The second is that aspirating systems can often give a much higher sensitivity than a standard smoke detector.

Because of the range of requirements, GLT Exports offer a range of equipment to suit all budgets.

Option 1: Aspirating Unit & standard smoke detector

This is an ideal solution for systems that require the ruggedness, security and accessibility of point detectors within a sampling system.

Option 2: Aspirating unit & Laser smoke detector

As an intermediate system, this solution offers sensitivity far higher than a standard smoke detector, but at a fraction of the cost of a full dedicated aspirating system.

Option 3: Dedicated aspiration system

This high-sensitivity smoke detector is an instrument quality nephelometer collecting scattered laser light from smoke particles over a full 360 degree sweep. The resultant sensitivity is an astonishing 0.001% obscuration/metre some 2000 times more sensitive than conventional smoke detectors.
